We enter now into a transitional year for IAUP – with a phenomenal 2014 Triennial conference taking shape for Yokohama in June, under the talented leadership of 2014-2017 President-Elect Chancellor Toyoshi Satow and his colleagues – and the final semi-annual and regional meetings of the 2011-2014 presidency taking place in the next few months. Please see the Triennial website at http://www2.convention.co.jp/IAUP2014/index.html
Plan to join us in Jamaica for the current presidency’s valedictory semi-annual meeting amidst the cultural warmth and welcome of the Caribbean and the gracious hospitality of our host, Professor Errol Morrison, Chair, IAUP Caribbean Region and President of the University of Technology in Jamaica. Professor and his colleagues invite us to relax a bit during our meetings and dress in “business casual” for all but the banquet…and he has been lobbying me quietly to make sure that there is ample “beach time” for us all to enjoy while in Montego Bay.
In addition to the cultural and social activities planned for us in Jamaica by our hosts, we shall during our business meetings on 31 January and 1 February:
Meet our IAUP Company Secretary from the UK, Chris Christou, who will be coming early to orient the Board of Directors to its duties and responsibilities under UK law, now that our legal structure is as a registered charity in the UK
- Have an updated presentation on the 2014 Triennial by the Presidency-elect
- Enjoy presentations and updates on the UN Academic Impact (UNAI), CAEL, the UN-IAUP Commission, the recent regional meeting in Brazil and the coming one in Zambia
- Learn about our invitation to become a charter member of the University World Consortium, being organized in concert with the Academy of Art & Science
- Hear valedictory reflections from the 2011-2014 presidency
